What does BYD do?
BYD (Build Your Dreams) is China's largest manufacturer of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. The company not only produces vehicles but also develops its own batteries, chips, and electronic systems. With a high level of vertical integration and global expansion into over 100 countries, BYD has established itself as a serious competitor to Tesla. In addition to mid-range and premium vehicles, BYD also manufactures buses and is increasingly investing in its own factories abroad, including in Hungary and soon in Spain.
Analysis of business figures
BYD suffered a setback in the third quarter of 2025: Revenue fell by 3.05 percent year-on-year to RMB 194.98 billion. Profit even shrank by 32.6 percent to RMB 7.82 billion. Adjusted for special items, the profit decline was even more pronounced at 36.7 percent. For the first time in years, vehicle sales also declined slightly to 1.114 million vehicles (-1.8 percent). Deliveries for the first nine months totaled 3.26 million vehicles. The annual target was reduced from 5.5 million to 4.6 million units.
Explanation of possible risks or price declines
The main reason for the decline lies in the aggressive price competition in the Chinese market. Manufacturers like Geely are drastically reducing prices, which has almost halved BYD's profit per vehicle. Added to this are regulatory uncertainties in Europe due to potential tariffs on Chinese electric cars. The stock has lost around 42 percent of its value in the last six months and is trading significantly below its yearly high.
Analyst opinions
Analyst opinions are divided. JP Morgan remains optimistic, seeing growth potential in new models and international expansion. HSBC, on the other hand, significantly lowered its profit forecasts, citing the pressures of price competition.
Valuation and price development
The BYD share price for 2025 is currently listed in the TransparentShare app (as of November 7, 2025) with -3 points The assessment revealed that only two key figures were positive, five were neutral, and five were negative. Conclusion with recommendation
BYD remains a technologically strong player in the electric vehicle market with impressive international expansion. However, short-term risks such as margin pressure and geopolitical uncertainty dominate. Investors should currently monitor the stock but wait to enter the market until the fundamentals stabilize.
